This Pandemic has upset so many routines of life. My Daughter-in-law, Jaci, is a third grade school teacher in Fort Worth, TX. She said farewell to her students for spring break expecting to see them in a weeks time. However, with the shelter in place rules and the cancelling of the school semester she will not have the opportunity to see her kiddos again. She called me one evening and asked if I would be willing to make some handmade cards so she could give each child a handwritten note. Of course I was eager to help out. I made five each of the following cards.
For this “Big Hugs” monster card I used a Concord and 9th stamp and die set as well as a pin dot rectangle from Spellbinders. The images are colored with Copic markers. I used a little piece of twine to create the balloon ribbon to finish this card off.
The Bee’s came from a Simon Says Stamp 2019 stamp of the month set along with the block word BEE. I colored them with copic markers. I used three coordinating colors to create the hombre effect on the letters. I created the pale blue polka dot background using The Stamp Market’s Sea ink. The amazing word, the heart, and the polka dot stamps all came from a Concord and 9th large flower stamp set. The pattern paper is Honey Bee Stamps and a variety of layering dies were used to complete this card.
This unicorn card utilizes a Hello Blue Bird “After the Rain” scenery die to create a magical background for the little unicorns. I used one 8.5 x 11 sheet of Lawn Fawn white glitter card to make all five cards. (I’m a little stingy with my glitter card stock). The unicorn stamps are Mama Elephant. For images that want to be white, I like to to put a thin outline of gray copic marker around the edges.
Sugar Pea designs makes this cute stamp for pug lovers. I just love the cute sentiment. Some layering dies, patterned paper, and copic markers made this an easy card to put together. The “miss you so” sentiment I borrowed from the Concord and 9th Monster stamp set I used on an earlier card.
For this card I stamped and colored the Llama from a Gerda Steiner stamp set. Some scenery dies from Lawn Fawn and a frame die from Creek Bank Creations was all it needed. I wasn’t liking how this card was coming together until I found the sunshine ray paper in a Authentique “Radiant” paper pad. Once I added the paper background for the sky, I really liked it.
I’ve had this Stampendous mushroom house die in my stash for a very long time. I picked it up at Tuesday Morning for $4.99. (the tag was still on it). Needless to say, I just hadn’t had an occasion to use it. However now that gnomes are all the rage, I had my perfect opportunity. It came together easily with a mixture of colored card stock. I used ink to shadow the edges of each piece. The gnomes are all Lawn Fawn colored with copics. I used Catherine Pooler ink to create a pool of yellow in the center of my card blank, added the grass, mushroom house, images and sentiment. This card was one of my favorites.
Jaci taught second grade before she moved up to third grade and there was one boy that was in her class both years. I remembered her telling me that he had a “Crayola Crayon” birthday party and got to create his own crayola coloring crayon at the Crayola factory. He chose purple and named it “Jack” after his teacher’s husband, which is my son Jack. So I created this card just for him using a lawn fawn set and watercolor paper and paints.
I chose a few other random cards I had in my stash and sent her 56 cards in all. Enough for her to write each of her students a special note. I am very thankful I was able to help her do this project. Her school had a time where parents could drive their kiddos through the parking lot of the school and wave to their teachers. I know each of those student were blessed to have Jaci as their teacher.
