Get Organized!

Spacing Saving Stamp Storage

I own so many stamps! I have more stamps in my craft room than Michael’s and Hobby Lobby combined! I had to find a way to store them so I could still easily locate what I wanted. In a previous post, I shared how I store my Heartfelt Creation and Stamps of Life sets and it still works very well. However, I needed a way to store all the other wonderful sets I was accumulating. So  in this post I will share my solution.

I purchased a 3 ring binder photo album from Michaels when it was on mega sale. It had been in my craft room closet for months if not years. Then one day I purchased a package of We R Memory Keepers 12×12 photo sleeves from Tuesday Morning for $4.99. I didn’t really have a plan for either of these items when I bought them, but eventually I put them to good use. I saw a picture in a magazine of a stamp set in a photo sleeve and an idea was born.

I began by trimming down the plastic around the stamp set so it would easily slide in and out of the photo sleeve without buckling. I started with photo sleeves where all the picture slots measured 4×6.

All the photo slots are 4×6
I trim the stamps plastic backing and cover so it will slip easily into the slot

Now I purchase them in all sizes . I find my stamp sets run in all those same sizes.

This photo sleeve holds the 1×2, 2×4 and 4×4 sets

If a set is constantly slipping out when I turn the page, I just remove the back sheet of plastic from the set, then slide the stamps into the pocket. The stamps will stick to the photo sleeve and the slipping is solved. I use magnetic sheets from Walmart to store the matching dies on and slide them into the same photo sleeve pocket with the stamp set. This keeps everything together and easy to find.

The small sentiments on this page wanted to slip out. Removing the back plastic fixed that. This page also has the coordinating dies in with the stamps

After filling up that first album,  I needed to organize them in some fashion so I didn’t have to flip through several books to find the set I wanted. So now I group my stamps by Christmas, Critters (like lawn fawn, etc.), and Sentiments. I’m thinking I need to add a floral soon.

in this picture you can see my labels. The Gold album is the newest, waiting to be labeled Christmas

I love that all my albums slip easily into the 12×12 paper storage units that I purchased from Michaels many years ago. This keeps them from putting extra weight  on each other if I were to stack them or the inner pages from sagging if I stored them vertically. In addition, it saves space. If I stored them in plastic bins, it would eat up my shelf space which is limited in my craft room. So far I have six clear stamp albums and 24 of the 12×12 paper storage shelves. Even though most of those shelves hold paper at the moment, I feel I have growing room for more stamp storage. I can easily use up or relocate the paper as my stamp stash grows.

Each album slides onto an individual shelf

If you are feeling overwhelmed with too many clear stamps (is that really possible?) and are looking for a space saving way to store them, give this a try and see if it works for you. My next storage post will be on dies, come back and check it out. If you find any of my tips helpful, please give my blog a follow.

Until then, Create for the fun of it!
